Shooting a wedding in the eastern states was a dream come true. Granted it wasn’t someplace like Iceland but it was still on my bucket list. Robyn + Efe helped make that come true by asking me to come along to their wedding at The Grounds of Alexandria in Sydney. Obviously, I jumped at the chance!
I had little idea of where everything was in Sydney so I spent the few days before the wedding scouting all the locations. Sydney is a huge city but as a tourist, I have to say it wasn’t as hard to get around with a car as I thought it would be. People also tend to say between Sydney and Melbourne, you’ll usually like one and hate the other. I think I might be one of those that loves Sydney more than Melbourne!
So on the day of the wedding, Robyn + Efe got married at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, and like most inner city churches there’s was little to no parking. I parked my rented car in a back street and sprinted the 400+ meters to the front entrance of the church. Thankfully, everything was running a little late so I had time to spare.
We then headed to Centennial Park for our photoshoot and even though it’s a cliche place to go for wedding photos as a local, everything was brand new to me. Robyn + Efe’s wedding party made it all the more awesome and there was plenty of banter to go around.
We finished up at the Grounds of Alexandria where the happy couple had their reception. The way the venue staff had styled the reception was truly something else. I’ve been to a lot of weddings and this still impressed me. There were many heartfelt speeches and many tears shed, but the real party began when Robyn, Efe and their whole wedding party changed into traditional Nigerian clothes to dance! There is a saying that Nigerian people love to dance and I saw it firsthand that night. There was So. Much. Dancing. And it never stopped for a second.
